See you soon!
On the first official day of classes, our course will become available on Canvas. To log-in, go to the myStanState, locate the Canvas portal, & enter our course on CANVAS.
On the left side of the page under Modules, go to "Module 1: START HERE”
You'll find everything you need to get started:
The Syllabus (this lists the assignments and deadlines)
The Liquid Syllabus (you're reading it right now)
IMPORTANT: The Mandatory Course Agreement (graded assignment, 25 points) is due the first day of class, Wednesday, August 20, by 11:59 pm. This must be completed on this date, or you will be dropped from the course (*This is a new University policy for asynchronous online classes).

I’m known for responding promptly, so if you don’t hear from me within a day, please reach out again.
There is no textbook for this course. I will upload Assigned Materials each week on Canvas (required readings, lectures, podcasts, and videos).
This online course is taught asynchronously, which means there are no live sessions that you need to attend.
Our course begins on the very first day of the semester. This is when you will be able to open our course on Canvas.
This is a fully online course, taught asynchronously, which means that there are no live sessions that you need to attend.
You will log into your myStanState portal to access Canvas. If you are new to Canvas and confused, please don't feel embarrassed about reaching out for help. We were all beginners at one time.
The successful start -- and completion -- of this course involves a partnership between you and me. Please take a moment to review the expectations that each of us will uphold.
As your instructor, I will create a positive and supportive environment where you will feel safe to share your thoughts.
You can expect to hear from me one to three times each week. Class announcements will be posted on the Announcements page on Canvas.
I will respond to your questions within 24 hours (even during weekends) and will provide individualized support in response to your needs.
Each module will officially begin on Monday. However, I will open each new module the day before, on Sunday, to accommodate those of you who wish to work during the weekend.
We don't have assignments due every week, but when we do have assignments, they will always be due by 11:59 p.m. on the posted dates.
I will provide written feedback on your assignments within 24-48 hours. This means that we both have deadlines. I will provide you with feedback quickly to show my respect for your assignment deadlines. This also allows you to use my feedback to make adjustments on the next assignment.
I will offer one "Life Happens" make-up discussion board assignment. You do not need to explain why you missed an assignment because "Life Happens." See course syllabus for details.
I will make myself available for online office hours on Zoom. I realize you are juggling many obligations so I will meet when it's most convenient for you (weekends, evenings...)
I will commit to getting regular physical activity, eating nourishing foods, cuddling with my dog, spending time with family/friends, and maintaining healthy sleep patterns so that I am in the best possible form to teach your course.
Although we don't have assignments due each week, I still expect you to log into Canvas each week (no later than Tuesday evening) and to keep current with the assigned material in that module.
We have very few online courses available in our department, and the waitlists are long; therefore, any student who isn't logging into the course by Tuesday evening each week or misses an assignment before the Census date (September 17) will need to meet with me on Zoom.
First Day Attendance: To secure your spot in class, you will need to complete a mandatory course agreement by Wednesday, August 20.
If you experience issues with stable WiFi or your computer, please note that this is an online course and you are responsible for finding solutions to these problems.
I want to get to know you, and hear your voice, even if it's imperfect. We earn our grades and degrees based on our own work and effort; therefore, I look forward to reading your writing. Please do not use AI (ChatGPT, etc..) or materials you find online without proper citation (this is plagiarism).
You will aim to submit all assignments on time. Managing your workload and meeting deadlines is an important life skill.
Ensure your Canvas notifications are set up correctly so you receive alerts about new announcements. You'll learn how to do this in Module 1.
Use Chrome as your browser. Canvas works best on Chrome. It's also helpful to download the Canvas app on your phone.
Pro Tip: My favorite way to stay on top of deadlines is to mark everything in an Agenda or an At-A-Glance Academic Appointment Book Planner (weekly or monthly 2025-26).
